Baja Weather Synopsis

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 07/30/07 The remains of Dalia is nothing more than a trof (green arrow) moving west. A High off our map to the west (blue arrow) has a ridge extending SE to just west of Cabo San Lucas. This will keep Baja clear and dry again today. Temperatures are expected to be seasonal. There are two tropical waves on our map (orange arrow) a tropical Low is being stimulated by the western most, but strong shear winds are inhibiting development. There are some thunderstorms near Acapulco also being stimulated but development is not anticipated at this time.

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 07/29/07 The remains of TS  Dalila (orange arrow) linger out 600 miles west of Baja. A ridge of High pressure extends from a High about 1200 miles west of San Francisco toward Baja (blue arrow) This ridge is expected to strengthen and continue keep Baja unseasonably dry for the next few days. A tropical Low (magenta arrow) is being stimulated by a tropical wave and has some potential for development. However, this Low is already too far west to affect Baja weather. Another tropical wave is moving west from Guatemala, but there is little organization in the moisture ahead of it to appear threatening at this time. Clear skies, slightly cooler and dryer than seasonal is the forecast for Baja today.

Destruction of Punta Colnet is Impending
It appears things are about to go forward with a enviornmentally disasterous plan to develop Punta Colnet into a high traffic commercial port. The Chinese and Korean interest pursuing the plan are pushing forward circumventing the laws of foriegn ownership of coastal property that affects thousands of North American real estate buyers. The laws were created in Mexico at the encouragement of the United States to originnaly prevent exactly what is happening now, a foreign toe hold, in this case the Chinese, on our continent.

Govt expects to initiate Colonet bidding by year-end

A ridge of High pressure not shown (green arrow) is retreating along with the High (blue arrow) off the western edge of our map, allowing TS Dalila it's NW track. We have one additional tropical wave on our map (orange arrow) that bears watching as it interacts with thunderstorms (yellow arrow)

Baja California Weather Outlook - Tropical Storm Dalila

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

12PM MDT 07/23/07 Tropical Storm Dalila (red arrow) became the fourth tropical cyclone of the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season today. Located about 560 miles south by SE of Cabo San Lucas the storm is moving NW at 9kts. Dalila is expected to continue to strengthen slowly as it move NW, but fall short of hurricane strength by the time it enters cooler waters mid-week. Spin-off from the storm will bring increasing chance of rain throughout the week. A ridge that extends from a High west of Baja (blue arrow) to a point about 350miles SW of Cabo is trapping TS Dalila more to the NW than previous storms this season.

Baja California Weather Outlook - Tropical Depression 7E

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

00AM MDT 07/22/07 Tropical Depression 7E (red arrow) has formed about 390nm south of Manzanillo, Mexico. TD7E is expected to evolve into Tropical Storm Erick later today. The system is forecast to move to the NW over the next several days. Although landfall of a system this early in the season is unlikely, it is possible that we will see some increased humidity, overcast and possibly rain from the spin-off of this system sometime next week. High pressure exists in the Pacific west of our map (blue arrow) a ridge extends from this High SE to about 250 miles SSW of Cabo San Lucas. This developing system may get trapped east of this ridge as forecasts call for the storm to turn to a NNWerly course Tuesday.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 07/21/07 Baja will enjoy clear skies and seasonal temperatures this afternoon after a cooler start to the day from the Pacific High (blue arrow) circulation from the Pacific. A surface low has formed over mainland Mexico, We have only one tropical wave on our map (orange arrow) that is stimulating a Low (magenta arrow) but the NHC appears confident that further development will be slow to occur, if at all. The system is expected to move harmlessly west into the Pacific.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 07/19/07 Another clear sunny day with temperatures slightly below seasonal today. A few high thin clouds will drift across Baja Sur from the mainland. Yesterday's High in the Pacific did dissipate and the High drying out the basin now (blue arrow) is located about 1800 miles west of California. There are two tropical waves on our map (orange arrows) the more eastern of the two supporting a pair of tropical Lows (magenta arrow) The Lows are expected to merge and move back over warmer water tomorrow. The NHC is not anticipating any significant development of these Lows.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 07/18/07 Clear skies and warm temperatures throughout Baja today as a result of a High (blue arrow) just off our map to the west. This High has been forecast to dissipate for the last three days yet has grown from 1019Mb to 1021Mb today the clockwise rotation is sweeping slightly cooler air across Baja from the NNW. Some scattered clouds may drift over Baja Sur late this afternoon from the mainland. A broad band of thunderstorms (magenta arrow) is being stimulated by one of three tropical waves on our map (orange arrows) The westward progress of this system has stalled against a ridge (yellow arrow) which will probably break to the NE and allow the tropical moisture to slip to the SW, denying Baja Sur any rain. There is still a chance these thunderstorms could make there way across from the mainland but tropical cyclone formation is unlikely.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

08AM MDT 07/17/07 Clear skies and warm temps will cover Baja today. Baja Sur may experience some periods of scattered clouds, particularly in the higher elevations from clouds (yellow arrow) drifting west from the mainland. This weather is the result of a High that is fading while drifting west. When this High dissipates the Eastern Pacific may return to more seasonal patterns. A Low over the mainland and associated thunderstorms are being stimulated by a tropical wave. A High pressure ridge extending SE from the High (blue arrow) to a point SE of Cabo could trap this weather to the east. Although tropical cyclone landfall in Baja is unlikely for another month, we could receive some rain late in the week if this system drifts to the NW.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

07AM MDT 07/14/07 Our late season low latitude High (blue arrow) slowly is migrating NW, but a ridge extends from that High south east to below Cabo San Lucas. This will continue Baja's clear and dry skies. Scattered clouds, the remains of TD4E will drift over Baja California today while Baa Sur temps may cross the 100° early this morning. There are three tropical waves on our map (orange arrows) with a fourth on the way. A Low (magenta arrow)  SSW of Cabo San Lucas has some chance of becoming a tropical depression before it entered cooler waters.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 07/11/07 Scattered clouds will make some appearances in both Baja California and Baja Sur today. Some of the spin-off (yellow arrow) from now defunct TD4E (magenta arrow) will bring clouds to Baja California. A High has formed (blue arrow) just west of Ensenada and will keep Baja dry and keep the storm track south. Some moisture from the mainland (green arrow) have drifted over  parts of Baja Sur.  A trof (dark blue arrow) is supporting some thunderstorms and convection that may have some chance for development over he next few days. Two additional tropical waves (orange arrows) are just moving into our basin, but with such dry air in the basin, there is n forecast development.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 07/09/07 Both Baja California and Baja Sur will have some scattered clouds today from tropical moisture (green arrow) sliding east from a tropical Low (magenta arrow) that keeps threatening to evolve into a tropical depression. Being stimulated by the eastern most of two tropical waves on our map (orange arrows) the system is running out of time to develop as it moves toward cooler waters.  The Eastern Pacific basin is about to receive a parade of 4 tropical waves from the east about 48 hrs apart. This will bear watching as they move across the warmest waters south of Acapulco. But right now a ridge of High pressure (yellow arrow) divides that area and would disrupt cyclonic formation. A new High is expected to form west of So Cal and extend a ridge SE toward the Socorro Islands. This should dry the skies over Baja back out after Tuesday.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

03PM MDT 07/08/07 Some scattered clouds and threat of thunderstorms looms over eastern Baja California this afternoon while Baja Sur will enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures just around 100°F. Down south we have a tropical wave (orange arrow) that has stimulated a Low (magenta arrow) and this system may develop into a tropical depression later today. A second tropical wave is entering our basin in the east and we will keep an eye on it early in the week as it makes it's way west of Acapulco where there are some limited thunderstorms (yellow arrow) present...

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 07/07/07 Another warn day throughout Baja today, while some scattered clouds may drift over many parts of the peninsula today, skies will generally be clear and dry. The Pacific High (blue arrow) continues to remain well south and east of its seasonal location off our map to the west. Down south a tropical disturbance is forming (magenta arrow) ahead of our sole tropical wave 9orange arrow) and is forecast to become a tropical Low in the next 48 hrs. this system is already to far west of Baja to influence our weather. However, in the next 72 hrs an inbound tropical wave off our map to the east, is expected to generate a tropical low south of Acapulco which will bear watching mid-week. We have now gone 38 days without the formation of a tropical cyclone in the Eastern Pacific. Strangely enough, 2006 holds the record with 42 days with the same start date of 5/31. Meanwhile, all that solar energy is continuing to build in the basin...

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 07/04/07 Happy 4th of July to our US Readers. The Pacific High (blue arrow) off our map to the west continues to drive a ridge of High pressure south of Cabo and keep our area of the Eastern Pacific. Some tropical clouds will drift over Baja Sur (green arrow) and offer the slight threat of a afternoon thunderstorm in the higher elevations. There are three tropical waves (orange arrows) marching across our basin, none of which are expected to stimulate tropical disturbances.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 07/02/07 The Pacific High (blue arrow) is slowly slipping to the NW off our map to the west.  Baja California will enjoy clear sunny skies and seasonal temperatures. Baja Sur will have partly sunny skies and the increasing chance of afternoon showers as a result f some tropical moisture (green arrow) working it's way NE. Yesterday there was some very light drizzle in La Paz.  Down south there are three tropical waves in our basin (orange arrows) There looked like some potential from some moisture in the Tehuantepec, but it move to the NE, leaving our basin is still fairly dry.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 07/01/07 The US Navy Satellite is down so we have a black image today. The Pacific High (blue arrow) has been pushed less than 800 miles west of Baja California so the skies will be clear and dry throughout the peninsula. This is causing a gale to blow in the California Bight (green arrow) We have just two tropical waves (orange arrows) on our map, neither of which is expected to find enough moisture to stimulate before moving over cooler waters in the next few days. One more tropical wave will enter our basin about Tuesday. I have stopped quoting Buoy weather for Corumuel Winds in the southern Sea as their forecast batting average has dropped well below just guessing. The evening winds will begin to subside as we near the middle of July anyway.
