Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/28/07 More bright sunny skies throughout Baja and season temperatures after the marine layer burns off along the Pacific Coast of Baja California. There is a thermal Low (green arrow) over the mainland which may draw some scattered afternoon clouds into Baja Sur. a High (blue arrow) over Mexico City is drying out much of the area from which our hurricanes come. There are three Tropical Waves on our map (orange arrows) but none of them are showing any prospects of development at this time. There is some moisture ahead of these waves (yellow arrow) that may have some potential toward the weekend.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 06/27/07 Bright sunny skies and warm temperatures will be in store for Baja today from the US border to Cabo San Lucas. Forecasts are calling for strong Corumuel Winds in the Southern Sea to 18kts. We have three tropical waves in our basin (orange arrows) and SSW of Cabo there is one system (magenta arrow) that still has some potential for development, but it is moving rapidly westward. The system has created a bend in the ITCZ that will keep the flow over +30° water for a greater distance in the next wave. The eastern most wave is significantly larger and will pass further north than any previous wave this season. However, the Eastern pacific Hurricane Basin remains relatively dry.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/25/07 Most of the Baja Peninsula will enjoy clear skies and seasonably warm temperatures. Baja Sur may have some scattered clouds late, from some tropical moisture. We currently have two Tropical Waves (orange arrows) in our basin, the more eastern of which is exciting and area of thunderstorms (magenta arrow) which has the possibility of development later in the week. Just ahead and to the north of the system is an area of much dryer and cooler air (yellow arrow) which will preclude much of this moisture from affecting Baja weather. We introduce a new graphic today on the Tropical Watch page – a 72hr Surface Chart Forecast Animation over the weekly SST °C image.

Baja Californa Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/21/07 Baja California will have sunny skies and seasonal temperatures while Baja Sur experiences some tropical clouds, higher humidity and even the threat of afternoon thunderstorms as the week progresses. A thermal Low (green arrow) over the California desert may draw marine layer inland later tonight. The Pacific High (blue arrow) off our map to the west is still controlling much of our weather. Down south there are three Tropical Waves (orange arrows) moving west. Although the NHC is not calling for any development there is a strong cell of thunderstorms on the southern coast of Mexico that will be stimulated by a Tropical wave in the next 24hrs. This system may bear watching.

Today is the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice. The earth will reach it's maximum tilt to the south at 12:06MDT meaning the sun will be at it's zenith in Baja Sur within an hour of the earth's maximum tilt. This does not happen every year, as the exact time of the solstice can vary by about 36hrs from June 20 to June 21. Next year, for example, the solstice will occur near sunset in Baja June 20. This also makes today the very best day to get a sunburn in Baja in years! Sunrise was at 6:34 and sunset will be at 8:12 giving us 13:38 of sunlight today. (in La Paz) The days will remain almost as long for the next week when the days will be shorter, by about a minute. The Solstice has been celebrated by cultures around the world, including native Mexican and European societies for more than 5500 years.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 06/19/07 Bright blue skies and warm temperatures will blanket Baja today as a result of the Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) A thermal Low (green arrow) over the mainland is gathering a little moisture over the Sonoran desert. We have three Tropical Waves on our map (orange arrows) and a large area of thunderstorms (yellow arrow) that may have some possibilities for development as it moves west out of our basin, into the Central Pacific.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 06/18/07 The Pacific Basin seems to be escaping a number of opportunities to have tropical activity. There are currently four Tropical Waves on our map (orange arrows) and very little moisture for them to stimulate. There is a little thunderstorm activity south of Acapulco (yellow arrow) That may bear watching as the fourth wave approaches. Baja will enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures as we head into summer weather. In the Southern Sea Corumuel winds are forecast throughout the week.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 06/17/07 A pretty quiet map for Baja today. Sunny skies and increasingly warm temperatures will apply for all of the Baja peninsula today. Evening breezes are diminishing and our hot/still summer weather is just around the corner. The Pacific High off our map to the west is responsible for this running string of beautiful days. There are three Tropical Waves orange arrows) in our basin with a fourth on the way early this week. Fortunately, there is only a small area of thunderstorms for them to stimulate. (yellow arrow) A pocket of early morning thunderstorms (green arrow) is active over the mainland.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 06/15/07 A majority of the Baja peninsula will have clear skies today as a result of the Pacific High (blue arrow) off our map to the west. There is a small area of Pacific moisture (green arrow) that may move ashore in Central Baja late today and bring fog early tomorrow. There are two Tropical Waves (orange arrows) on our map moving west along the ITCZ. There may be enough thunderstorm activity later in the weekend for the second wave to generate some tropical activity.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 06/14/07 Baja California will have clear skies today while Baja Sur will have some light overcast and afternoon thunderheads over the mountains as a result of tropical moisture being drawn north by a thermal Low (yellow arrow) over the mainland. The Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) will retreat a little further westward today moving us toward our summer weather pattern. The remains of TD3E (green arrow) have all but ceased to exist. There are three Tropical Waves on our map (orange arrows) and some thunderstorms (magenta arrow) that may provide for some development later in the week.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

11AM MDT 06/13/07 Clear skies and warm temperatures will dominate the Baja forecast today. This is a result of the dome of High pressure generated by the Pacific High off our map to the west. (blue arrow) The remains of TD3E (magenta arrow) continue to drift WNW and is dissipating. Down south we have three Tropical Waves (orange arrows) in our basin. However, with limited moisture available the NHC does not anticipate any cyclonic development in the forecast period.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/12/07 The Baja peninsula will enjoy clear skies and season temperatures north to south today as a result of the Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) A thermal Low (green arrow) is drawing moisture left behind by TD3E (magenta arrow) up into Texas. There are two Tropical waves on our map (orange arrows) moving west which will find little moisture left behind to stimulate. The NHC forecasts call for no cyclonic activity for the next 36 hrs.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

08AM MDT 06/11/07 A Low (magenta arrow) about 450 miles WSW of Manzanillo developed little overnight but still has some possibility of cyclonic development before it moves over cooler water in the next few days. Some of that moisture (yellow arrow) is bringing overcast skies to Baja Sur today. Baja California will have cloudy skies as a result of a front moving through Southern California (green arrow) There are two Tropical Waves (orange arrows0 moving though our basin, neither will find enough moisture and disturbed air to threat cyclonic formation over the next 24hrs.

Baja Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

05PM MDT 06/10/07 Many parts of the peninsula will have scattered clouds today from two different systems. In Baja California a Low (green arrow) is dragging along some clouds as it moves east. In Baja Sur we have our first taste of the tropical moisture (yellow arrow) to come later this summer. Being drawn north into the Sea from a tropical disturbance we have down south (magenta arrow) This Low is expected to turn north and the NHC says it may yet still gather some more organization and become a tropical depression. It is being stimulated by the western most of three tropical waves. (orange arrows)

Baja Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/09/07 Most of Baja will enjoy clear skies and seasonal temperatures today. Evening winds from the SW in the southern Sea are forecast to be lighter than earlier in the week. The Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) continues to dominate our weather as it will for about 6 more weeks. There is a thermal Low (green arrow) over northern Mexico that will draw marine layer into the northern pacific regions of Baja California. There are two Tropical Waves (orange arrows) in our basin. The western most is stimulating a large area of thundershowers 400 miles SSE of Acapulco. The National Hurricane Center believes this system has only margin chance of additional development.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

09AM MDT 06/08/07 A busy map down south today but most of Baja will enjoy clear skies and warm early summer temps today after the Pacific marine layer burns off in the usually stubborn places in Baja California from San Quentin to El Rosario. Winds after sunset are forecast to be lighter than the past few days from the SW. In the ITCZ we have 2 Tropical Waves on our map. (orange arrows) the western most of which is stimulating an area of thunderstorms 400 miles SW of Acapulco and further development is possible. The ITCZ has push north along the southern coast of Mexico (yellow arrow) The ITCZ moves with season and weather features but doesn't usually come this close to the coast, through very warm water, until later in the season. When the western tail of the ITCZ works further north toward this point (green arrow) is when Baja stands a great likelihood of tropical cyclone.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 06/05/07 The Eastern Pacific has it's first Tropical Wave (orange arrow) of the season entering our basin today. There isn't much to support storm formation in the immediate future, but tropical moisture (yellow arrows) is developing further west. A Cold front (green arrow) and associated Low has pushed inside the Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) and will bring cooler temps and clouds to parts of Baja California. In Baja Sur we will have pretty much nothing but sun (remember the sunscreen!) and temps in the mid 90°'s.

Baja California Weather Outlook

   Baja California Weather Forecast

Surface Chart / Satellite IR

10AM MDT 06/03/07 Most of the Baja peninsula will enjoy perfect summer weather today. The TJ-Ensenada region will endure a marine layer which should retreat by mid afternoon. Baja Sur temps will near 98°F. The Pacific High off our map to the west (blue arrow) is responsible for our clear and dry skies. Two trofs are moving along the ITCZ (orange arrows) Two thermal Lows over the mainland Mexico have no tropical moisture to draw inland, following the passage of TS Barbara. Barbara came ashore yesterday in the Mexican state of Chiapas and dissipated completely over land with the cooler/dryer air of the High that moved into the central Gulf.
