December Fish and Dive Report

Fish & Dive Report

29th December 2005

The winter weather has definitely settled here in La Paz, with the stronger
Northern Winds making local excursions a touch & go situation. The water
temperature has dropped significantly, varying between 65 to 70oF. It seems like
the quick change in temperature as well as the Northern Winds have cause very
limited visibility, of approximately 10 to 15 feet.

Although there are less Pargo & Cabrilla than what we are accustomed too, we
have heard several reports that there are Wahoo hanging out at El Bajo, however
it is proved difficult to lure them in to bite for our sport fishing friends,
and hard to see for our spear fishing friends.

The conditions around Southern Cerralvo have been very similar, with much colder
water and worse visibility than what we are accustomed to at this time of year.
However Tim from Palapas La Ventana went out just before Christmas Day, and
surprisingly shot a Wahoo in these colder waters, which unfortunately broke
loose. Still disbelieving that he shot a Wahoo under these conditions, he went
back out a couple of days later, and brought home a beautiful 23KG. Wahoo, and
saw several others. Go figure…

They have also been seeing smaller Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado around this area.

Our friend Mark Lundqvist went spear fishing closer to the Loreto and said that
he was welcomed with much clearer water, and was able to spear some good size
Huachinangos and Pargos, and caught some 10 to 15lb Dorado whilst Rod & Reel
fishing.

So it seems like the Sea of Cortez still carries its’ surprises for us…

Best fishes and safe diving for all in 2006!
