Baja California Weather Outlook - Tropical Storm Lowell

Sunday, 09/07/2008 10:10 AM MDT Tropical Storm Lowell (red arrow) has strengthend slightly over night and this mornings 5 day forecast has the storm turning to the NE, toward Baja Sur on Wednesday. TS Lowell is now about 410 miles SSE of Cabo San Lucas and is forecast to travel to the NW for the next 3 days. Then, forecasters believe, the storm will turn dramatically to the NE and may deliver rain to Baja Sur by next weekend. TS Lowell will approach Baja from over waters very close to the important 26°C level, it is therefore unlikely that Lowell will reach us with hurricane intensity.
It will be a warm and humid day today throughout Baja, with a strong chance of afternoon thunderstorms along the Sea of Cortez and in the higher elevations of Baja Sur. There is a thermal Low (green arrow) that may draw in additional Pacific clouds to the coastal areas of Baja California. Winds in the Sea are forecast to be light. under 10kts and variable, except in the vicinity of thunderstorms.
In the Gulf of Campeche there is a large area of thunderstorms that is turned to the north and is no longer likely to cause additional disturbance in our basin.
