First Tropical storm of 2006
The following bulletin is from the NHC and concerns a developing tropical storm souht of Acapulco. While it has not yet enter the Sea of Cortez it may be of interest to those plannig trips to the souther pacifc coast of Mexico. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE PACIFIC COAST OF MEXICO FROM PUNTA MALDONADO WESTWARD TO ZIHUATANEJO.
FOR STORM INFORMATION SPECIFIC TO YOUR AREA...INCLUDING POSSIBLE INLAND WATCHES AND WARNINGS...PLEASE MONITOR PRODUCTS ISSUED BY YOUR LOCAL WEATHER OFFICE.
AT 800 PM PDT...0300Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ALETTA WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 16.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 101.0 WEST OR ABOUT 95 MILES...155 KM...SOUTHWEST OF ACAPULCO MEXICO.
ALETTA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 2 MPH...4 KM/HR...AND A CONTINUED SLOW MOTION WITH A GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 45 MPH...75 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES...95 KM FROM THE CENTER.
ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1002 MB...29.59 INCHES.
ALETTA IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE ADDITIONAL RAIN ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IN REGIONS OF MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN. THESE RAINS COULD CAUSE LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES.

2006 Hurricane has begun in the Eastern pacific
May 15th marks the beginning of the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season. Let's look at the factors that may influence storm formations in the next week, then we will look at what the experts give for an extended season forecast and what factors may affect the outcome.
Every week this article will analyze those strategic factors that lead to the formation of tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific. This is not a weather forecast, we leave that to the professionals in Miami. People traveling or living in the hurricane prone regions of the Eastern Pacific should consult weather forecasts regularly from May until November and proper precautions and preparations should be taken when advise to do so by authorities.
