Baja Californa Weather Outlook Baja California Weather Forecast |
09AM MDT 06/21/07 Baja California will have sunny skies and seasonal temperatures while Baja Sur experiences some tropical clouds, higher humidity and even the threat of afternoon thunderstorms as the week progresses. A thermal Low (green arrow) over the California desert may draw marine layer inland later tonight. The Pacific High (blue arrow) off our map to the west is still controlling much of our weather. Down south there are three Tropical Waves (orange arrows) moving west. Although the NHC is not calling for any development there is a strong cell of thunderstorms on the southern coast of Mexico that will be stimulated by a Tropical wave in the next 24hrs. This system may bear watching. Today is the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice. The earth will reach it's maximum tilt to the south at 12:06MDT meaning the sun will be at it's zenith in Baja Sur within an hour of the earth's maximum tilt. This does not happen every year, as the exact time of the solstice can vary by about 36hrs from June 20 to June 21. Next year, for example, the solstice will occur near sunset in Baja June 20. This also makes today the very best day to get a sunburn in Baja in years! Sunrise was at 6:34 and sunset will be at 8:12 giving us 13:38 of sunlight today. (in La Paz) The days will remain almost as long for the next week when the days will be shorter, by about a minute. The Solstice has been celebrated by cultures around the world, including native Mexican and European societies for more than 5500 years. |
