Hurricane Ivo Headed for Baja California Sur
Information on Hurricane Ivo
09PM MDT 09/19/07 Ivo has been upgraded to Hurricane Category 1 status some 496 miles south by southwest of Cabo San Lucas. The current estimated position is 16.1N 112.4W and movement is 315° at 8kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated at 987Mb and winds are 65kts with gusts to 80kts. Hurricane Ivo is expected to peak tomorrow evening then diminish to a tropical storm before making landfall near Cabo San Lucas on Monday
The 9PM forecast calls for the storm to intensify, accelerated and curved it back slightly to the north. The outside end of a five day forecast now calls for tropical storm landfall near Cabo San Lucas Monday morning as the storm moves ENE.
Hurricane Ivo is forecast begin turning to the north on Thursday and bend further around to the NE on Friday. The lower 1/2 of Baja Sur now falls within the five day forecast cone of possibility. By turning to the NE sooner than originally forecast, Ivo will intensify to hurricane strength sooner and remain over warmer water longer. Ivo could still be a hurricane when making landfall in Baja Sur and will certainly have opportunity to regain strength as it move toward the mainland over +28°C waters.
